Steve only started singing at 18, a late bloomer, having no previous interest in music as a career. He was halfway through a plumbing apprenticeship, when he went and had his first singing lesson.
He would sit at the back of the room writing lyrics and listening to music. One of his favourite singers to listen to was Sinatra; his first introduction to the man was at an early age, Steve's father who passed away when he was 12. Steve used to listen to his father’s Sinatra albums on the long drives home. Steve recalls sitting in the back sea, in the dark, watching the lights on the stereo while hearing the sound of Sinatra.
"There was always a connection between my dad and Sinatra, like it still connects me with him. Maybe it’s what got me so interested in that stlye of music to begin with".
Since then Steve has come along way gigging all over Australia and working with some of the best this country has to offer, from rock n’ roll Hall of Famer Marty Rhone to jazz great James Morrison.
When he isn’t singing he’s writing. When he isn’t writing he’s listening and when he isn’t listening he’s watching and working hard to perfect his craft and make his mark.
This might explain the rich timber and resonance in his voice to say nothing of the emotion and maturity for one so young. It makes Steve Davis a vocal stand out. He is also a great onstage performer with a mic technique that has to be seen to be believed. Oh, and one other incidental thing, he’s a great looker. Can sometimes help in today’s hugely competitive recording field.
Song List
Come fly with me
Fly me to the moon
Under my skin
one for my baby
In the wee small hours
Young at heart
Withcraft
Girl from ipanema
My way
Luck be a lady
Lady is a tramp
New york new york
Cant take that away from me
What now my love
Angel eyes
Let face the music and dance
Summer wind
Strangers in the night
Loves been good to me
Send in the clowns
The best is yet to come
Come rain or come shine
all the way
you make me feel so young
